Stix serves as an Early Childhood Center and operates under the instructional methodology of Project Construct. Project Construct offers students "hands-on, minds-on" experiences to attain deep understandings in the core content areas, while they also learn to work collaboratively with adults and peers and to be lifelong problem solvers.
Within the Project Construct instructional methodology, Stix is offers a classroom beginning at the kindergarten grade level (no gifted preschool classroom is offered) for students who qualify for gifted programs in the SLPS. Any student currently attending Stix as well as those who do not must apply to be considered for placement in the Stix Gifted Classroom.
All applicants must apply through the Magnet and Choice Schools application and placement process, and qualify for gifted programs to be offered a seat to the Stix Gifted Classroom.
Requirements:
- Students must achieve eligible scores on tests administered by the SLPS Gifted Testing Offices. Scores submitted for test results administered by private testing vendors will not be accepted for review. Scores submitted for tests administered by other school districts are subject to review and approval by the SLPS Gifted Testing Offices.
- Minimum eligible scores are 90% on academic achievement and intelligence tests.
- Gifted Permission to Assess online submission form must be returned 1 week after submitting this application.
The Gifted Testing Offices have final determination on student eligibility for gifted programs offered by the SLPS.
Stix Gifted Classroom 2nd grade graduates are automatically assigned to the Classical Junior Academy for 3rd grade.
